  • How much carpet is needed for a room

  • How many tiles cover a floor

  • How much space something takes up


Visualizing the difference

Imagine a rectangular garden:

  • The perimeter is the fence around the garden

You can change the shape and keep the same area but get a different perimeter — and vice versa.
